Case Study – SRS Manages a Medical Emergency Within a Central London Residential Block of Flats

During a daytime shift in a block of flats we secure in Central London, our Security-Concierge team responded to a medical emergency involving a resident who collapsed in the gym facilities of the residence.

Upon receiving the alert via radio from the spa reception, our Security-Concierge team responded immediately. One of our team members proceeded directly to the gym to assess the situation, while additional support was coordinated via radio from our patrol and reception areas. On arrival, the resident was unconscious and being assisted by a friend. Our team secured the immediate environment, ensured the resident was placed in a safe position and maintained a calm, discreet presence appropriate to a shared residential setting.

While ambulance services were being arranged, our Security-Concierge team monitored the resident closely and provided first aid in line with our training and established procedures. Clear communication was maintained throughout between our Security-Concierge team, reception staff and management, allowing the situation to be managed efficiently without disruption to other residents using the communal facilities. The resident regained consciousness while under observation.

Paramedics attended the scene and carried out a full medical assessment. At the time of their arrival, the resident was conscious and responsive. After assessing the resident, paramedics advised that the incident was likely related to breathing difficulties and recommended that the resident follow up with her GP due to existing chest-related medical conditions. No further action was required following the medical assessment.

Following the incident, the General Manager of the residential block of flats commented: “The SRS Security-Concierge team handled the situation to a high standard, with disciplined execution throughout. Each step was delivered with professional judgement and in full alignment with first aid procedures. The resident was supported quickly and with care, and both she and her friend expressed sincere thanks to the team. Well done.”

Medical emergencies can arise without warning, and the ability to respond immediately, coordinate calmly and support residents with discretion is essential.
